How often should my chimney be swept?

At least once a year for wood burners and multi fuel stoves, and twice a year if you burn through the winter most days. Open fires burning wood or smokeless fuel should also be swept annually. If you are unsure, book an inspection and Rob will tell you honestly what your flue needs.

Why does chimney maintenance matter?

Accepted Answer

Three reasons. Safety, because a swept flue prevents chimney fires and lets fumes escape properly. Efficiency, because a clean flue draws better so your stove or fire burns cleaner and gives out more heat. Longevity, because catching cracks, leaks and blockages early extends the life of the chimney and the appliance.

Do you issue a certificate after sweeping?

Yes. Rob is a HETAS Approved Chimney Sweep and every sweep comes with a HETAS certificate for your records. Many home insurers ask for proof of an annual sweep and this covers it.

Will sweeping make a mess?

Accepted Answer

No. Dust sheets go down before anything else, the fireplace is sealed and a HEPA filtered vacuum runs throughout. Rob is regularly praised in reviews for leaving homes exactly as he found them, including on freshly fitted carpets.

Can you install a log burner in my home?

Almost certainly. Rob installs wood burning and multi fuel stoves into existing chimneys, open fireplaces and chimney breasts that have been blocked up. Every install starts with a free survey to check the flue, the hearth and ventilation so the quote is accurate and the install is compliant with building regulations.

Do I need a chimney liner for a stove?

In most older homes, yes. A liner gives the stove a correctly sized, gas tight flue, improves draw and protects the brickwork. Rob will advise after a sweep and CCTV inspection whether your existing flue is sound enough to use without one.

What logs should I burn?

Kiln dried hardwood with a moisture content under 20 percent. Wet or unseasoned wood tars up the flue, blackens the glass and wastes heat. We recommend GWB Firewood Logs in Doncaster, a family run supplier of sustainably sourced British hardwood.

Can you clear a bird's nest from my chimney?

Yes, outside the nesting season or once the nest is confirmed empty, as active nests are protected by law. Rob removes the nest, sweeps the flue and fits a bird guard cowl so it does not happen again.

Yes. Rob is a HETAS Approved Installer and HETAS Approved Chimney Sweep, and is fully insured for sweeping, inspections, installation and repair work. Certificates can be shown on request.
